South San Francisco Scavenger Company accepts a variety of materials for recycling
  • Newspaper
  • Mixed paper (includes)
    • White and colored paper
    • Junk mail
    • Envelopes
    • Telephone books
    • File folders
    • Magazines and catalogs
    • Paper bags and packaging
    • Paperboard such as cereal boxes and paper towel tubes
    • PLEASE, NO PAPER TOWELS AND TISSUES, PIZZA BOXES, AND WAX AND PLASTIC COATED PAPER SUCH AS MILK CARTONS AND FROZEN FOOD BOXES.
  • Old corrugated cardboard
    • PLEASE FLATTEN AND STACK CARDBOARD AND PLACE NEXT TO YOUR RECYCLING BINS. DUE TO SPACE RESTRAINTS PLEASE LIMIT CARDBOARD TO PIECES NO LARGER THAN 4 FEET BY 2 FEET BY 1 FOOT.
  • Glass bottles and jars
    • PLEASE NO KITCHEN DISHES, CERAMICS, MIRRORS, LIGHT BULBS OR WINDOW GLASS.
  • Aluminum and tin cans and empty aerosol containers
  • Plastic bottles and plastic beverage container #1-7
  • Used motor oil
    • Used Motor Oil PLEASE POUR USED MOTOR OIL INTO A PLASTIC CONTAINER WITH A SCREW ON LID AND SECURE LID WITH TAPE. GOOD CONTAINERS TO USE ARE: BLEACH, DETERGENT AND MOTOR OIL BOTTLES. CONTAINERS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
  • Used oil filters
    • PLEASE PLACE IN A CLEAR PLASTIC BAG AND SECURELY SEAL THE BAG.
  • Household batteries, such as flashlight or radio and toy batteries.
    • PLEASE PLACE ALL OLD BATTERIES IN A CLEAR PLASTIC BAG AND SECURELY SEAL THE BAG.

South San Francisco Residential Yardwaste Collection
Yardwaste in South San Francisco is collected twice per month according to the schedule below. The collection day may not be the same day as your regular garbage and recycling pickup day. Please call 650-589-4020 if you are not sure of your yardwaste collection day in South San Francisco.

Millbrae and Brisbane Residential Yardwaste Collection
Yardwaste is collected every other week in Millbrae and Brisbane. Residents are designated as either an "A" week or a "B" week. Check the calendar to see which weeks are designated "A" or "B". If you are unsure whether you have an "A" or "B" designation, please call our offices at 650-589-4020.

Yardwaste Collection Guidelines

  • South San Francisco and Brisbane residents may use their own containers for yardwaste collection or they may purchase or rent a 96-gallon yardwaste container from South San Francisco Scavenger Company. Millbrae residents should use the black 96-gallon container provided.
  • Please have your yardwaste container(s) on the curb by 5:00 am on your scheduled pickup day.
  • Unlimited yardwaste will be collected, but it must be containerized or bundled. No plastic bags please.
Accepted Yardwaste Materials
  • Grass clippings
  • Plant cuttings, leaves, shrubs
  • Tree limbs less than 5 feet long and 6 inches in diameter
  • Succulents / iceplant
  • Ivy
Not Acceptable
  • No plastic bags, paper bags, cardboard boxes, plastic "plant" flats or flower pots
  • No palm fronds
  • No yucca plants
  • No dirt, rock, concrete or gravel
  • No food scraps
  • No manure or pet waste
  • No flower pots
  • No tree trunks
  • No fruit
