South San Francisco Scavenger Company provides weekly garbage and recycling service and yard waste collection every two weeks.

General Service Information
Because of health and safety standards, cities serviced by South San Francisco Scavenger Company require residents to have once weekly garbage collection. Participation in our recycling and yard waste programs are recommended.
Starting Service
Please call 650.589.4020 to start collection service. Collection carts are provided as part of your service.
Additional carts are available for a monthly rental fee.

Cart Storage
All garbage, recycling and yard waste carts must be stored out of view from the street. Carts should be rolled out no more than 12 hours before collection and stored out of sight no more than 12 hours after collection.
No hazardous materials of any kind are accepted in your garbage, recycling or yard waste carts.
On Your Collection Day
Wheel your carts out to the street on your regularly scheduled garbage and recycling day. Place recycling and garbage carts out together 2-feet apart and 3-feet away from any vehicle or obstacle. Put your cart wheels against the curb with the handles facing your house. If there is a problem putting your carts in the street, please put your carts as close as possible to the street, for example, in your driveway, on the mow strip, or at the edge of the sidewalk.

On-Call Clean Up - By Appointment Only
Residents of single-family dwellings may have two free clean-ups per calendar year for extra trash only. On-Call Clean Up is limited to ONE large item, such as a sofa, chair or mattress, etc. and six bags of garbage. If you do not have a large item then you may set out 12 bags of trash. Special handling fees will apply to televisions, computer monitors, other electronics and all appliances. Please call our office for more information.
Call 650.589.4020 to schedule your free on-call clean up appointment on your regular garbage collection day. Be prepared to list the items that you will be setting out at the curb, for example, a sofa and 6 bags of trash.
- All garbage must be contained in bags or boxes.
- No loose garbage will be collected.
- Tree limbs or branches or carpet rolls must be tied and no longer than 4 feet.
Please recycle yard waste and other recyclables on your yard waste and recycling collection day.

Extra Pick Ups/Special Handling Pick Ups
Extra garbage or bulky items can be taken for a reasonable fee. Please call 650.589.4020 at least one day in advance to arrange for a pick up of extra garbage or bulky items such as couches, mattresses, appliances & electronics, etc. Residents my also use the free on call clean-up program described below.
Special Handling
Refrigerators, televisions, computer monitors, freezers, air conditioners and other appliances & electronics require special handling. Please call our office for more information on these items.
Holiday Schedule
South San Francisco Scavenger Company provides regularly scheduled service on all holidays except Christmas Day and New Years's Day. If your regularly scheduled service day falls on these days, please look for information regarding an alternate collection day included in the South San Francisco Scavenger fourth quarterly newsletter, on our website or call customer service.
Holiday Tree Recycling
Set out holiday trees on your regularly scheduled yard waste recycling day. Trees must have the stand and all decorations removed including the tinsel, lights and ornaments. Flocked trees are not accepted as yard waste.
